Back To School Safety Tips from the Fire Marshal…

…to help ensure your children arrive to and from school safely:
1. Get to the school bus stop early enough to avoid running across the street.
2. Never run after the bus if it has already left the bus stop.
3. When waiting for the bus, stay away from traffic. Line up at least five giant steps away from the curb or road way.
4. Never push when getting on or off the school bus.
5. Be aware – Cross with Care! Cross only after the school bus has come to a complete stop and all traffic has halted.
6. When crossing in front of the bus, walk a minimum of 10 feet ahead so the driver can see you clearly. Never cross the street behind the school bus.
7.When the school bus is moving, always stay in your seat. Never put your arms or head out the windows.
8.Talk quietly and avoid distracting your school bus driver in transit.
9. Ensure that items like backpacks, band equipment, or sports equipment do not block the aisles or emergency exits.
10. Do not tamper with the emergency exits. If there is an emergency, listen to the school bus driver.
…to protect your privacy and your child’s safety online
1. Be cautious on sharing first day of school photos on social media.
2. Avoid posting your child’s personal details like name, age, name of school, school bus number.
3. Be Careful of what’s in the background of your pictures you do post, such as street name, your house number or address.
4. Keep family information private on social media to help prevent identity theft.
