The Brookhaven Borough Board of Health administers and enforces the health ordinances and related ordinances of the borough. The Board of Health is managed by a health officer that must have experience or training in public health work and must, within six months of taking the oath of office, be certified for the office of health officer by the department. One of the main duties of the board of health is to issue annual licenses to all establishments that offer consumable goods with a full inspection to acquire or maintain the annual license.
The board of health also responds to complaints or concerns in regard to any establishment that sells consumable products. In the event of emergencies, e.g., Power outages, the board of health must also verify by inspection that all affected establishments selling consumable goods were not adversely affected.
