Brookhaven Borough Fire Code
The Brookhaven Borough Fire Code is a law that establishes fire safety requirements for buildings and businesses in Brookhaven Borough. Brookhaven’s latest major codes are from the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC) by the International Code Council (ICC) and the 2024 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1, Fire Code. These 2024 editions provide the most current minimum regulations for fire prevention, life safety, and hazards. It applies to all persons and places in the borough, focusing on new and existing building hazards.
The Fire Code regulates such matters as:
- The prevention and reporting of fires
- Emergency preparedness
- The manufacture, storage, handling, use, and transportation of hazardous and combustible materials
- The conduct of various businesses and activities that pose fire hazards
- The design, installation, operation, and maintenance of buildings and premises that house such materials, businesses, and activities
The Fire Code is often used alongside NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, to ensure comprehensive safety.
