Recreation Board

Purpose/Goal:
The Recreation Board shall serve as an advisory board to the Borough Council on issues pertaining to parks and recreation. The Board shall have no official authority to establish, create, pass, or enforce any of the park rules or activities without express consent of Borough Council. The Recreation Board plays a major role in developing a sense of community and enhancing the residents’ quality of life by providing recreational and social programs to preschool age children, youth, teens, adults, family, and senior populations and by organizing and hosting special events. Some examples: Family Day, Tree Lighting Ceremony, Youth Dances, Trunk or Treat, Concerts in the Park, Artful Aging.  
The Recreation Board is responsible for:
1) Identifying the open space, recreation, park, and trail needs of the Borough.
2) Planning and supervising recreation programs approved by the Borough Council.
3) Recommending plans, programs, and policies regarding the provision of recreation and park services.
4) Working with the Council Liaison, to help coordinate/plan community events and voluntary community projects in the Borough.
5) Reviewing current parks and recreation programs and facilities in the Borough to determine additional needs and submitting recommendations pertaining to parks and recreation guidelines, policies and facilities use to the Borough Council for current and long-range plans.
6) Serving as the line of communication between all community sports groups and the Borough Council.
Board Members:
The Recreation Board shall consist of nine volunteers who shall be appointed to five-year terms. The appointment of the members of the Board shall be made by resolution of Borough Council. The Recreation Board shall, at its first meeting of each calendar year, elect a President, Vice President, and Secretary and any other officers it deems necessary, which officers shall serve for a period of one year.
