Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. From 1868 to 1970, it was observed on May 30. Since 1971, it has been observed on the last Monday of May.
Please join us for Brookhaven’s Memorial Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 6:30pm in the municipal center’s gym, where we will continue the tradition of reading the names of those Brookhaven veterans who were Killed in Action:
With private donations from Brookhaven Veterans along with the Brookhaven American Legion Post 94, we honored these four men at the 2023 Veterans Day Service with special Hometown Heroes Killed in Action (KIA) Banners. These banners have a black background and their profile pictures are in the shape of Brookhaven trimmed in gold. More information can be found on these men in the Councilman Dan McCray’s History Showcases in the Brookhaven Municipal Center’s Lobby.
In time for Memorial Day 2024, these flags now fly in front of the houses & on the streets where these Heroes lived and to preserve their memory after the banners are worn and gone, their profiles with pictures can be found on the website.
When you see one of these flags, please take a moment to remember these four who died for our freedom.
