The Vote Is In for the Proposed OLC Acquisition – YES

During this past week, Brookhaven Borough residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Borough’s initiative to acquire approximately 7.4 acres of property presently owned by the Our Lady of Charity Catholic Church/ Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The final vote totals as tabulated by the volunteer, non-partisan OLC Committee.

The percentage of Brookhaven residents voting in favor of acquiring the former OLC school, convent, and adjacent open green space lots was a resounding 79.8%. In light of the overwhelming sentiments as expressed by Borough residents that this property be forever preserved and protected as open green space and passive recreational use, the Brookhaven Borough Council has authorized its Solicitor to negotiate and draft a formal Agreement of Sale with representatives from the Church/Archdiocese. Borough Council remains cautiously optimistic that it will be able to successfully negotiate a contract on terms and conditions mutually acceptable to both parties. We shall keep the public informed as this project proceeds and as circumstances warrant.
