At the July 2025 Council meeting, Mahnoor Khan, founder of StorySprout Libraries and an 11th grader at Sun Valley High School, proposed her plan to install free little libraries on public property in Brookhaven. These will be small weatherproof boxes allowing community members to Take a Book, Leave a Book, fostering reading habits and neighborhood engagement.
Mahnoor and her team, fellow 11th graders Haylie Smith, Bridget Steel, Chloe Burushkin, and her brother Yousef Khan, who is in 7th grade, will work with Brookhaven Council and the Recreation Board to determine where to build the little libraries. They will take full responsibility for raising funds, installing, stocking, monitoring, and maintaining these sidewalk libraries.
They are very thankful for the donations they have already received to build the first library, but will need help to expand their project. If you would like to help them with funds or supplies or books, please click here.
