Police Reporting – 2025 Statistical Crime Review Highlights

The following highlights were provided by Chief Tim Habich:

Total criminal offenses trended downward in 2025, mirroring regional patterns. While overall numbers decreased, a late-year rise in serious offenses suggests potential challenges ahead.

  • Part I Offenses: Decreased from 236 to 175. This category includes serious crimes such as homicide, robbery, and burglary. The decline was driven primarily by a reduction in thefts, which dropped from 225 to 161.
  • Part II Offenses: Decreased from 327 to 162. These include simple assault, drug offenses, DUIs, and misdemeanor traffic violations.

There were a total of 158 adult arrests and nine juvenile arrests in 2025. Officers recovered $30,147 in stolen property. Officers wrote 456 traffic citations and gave 724 warnings. They responded to 277 motor vehicle accidents. Finally, officers conducted 1958 security checks during the year and drove over 43,000 miles on patrol.

Looking Ahead: Despite the overall decline, a late-year spike in robberies and burglaries is concerning, potentially linked to economic and national instability. The Brookhaven Police Department remains committed to enforcing the law with the three pillars of our mission statement in mind, “Integrity, Respect, Trust”. Our officers will also enforce the law from a foundation of empathy and procedural justice.
