Job Opening – Public Fire Safety Official

Brookhaven Borough is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Fire Safety Official.

This role supports the Borough’s fire safety initiatives, assists the Brookhaven Fire Company, and provides essential public safety services to residents, businesses, and community institutions.

Qualifications:

  • Firefighter I – Pro Board
  • Vehicle Rescue Technician Certification
  • Hazardous Materials Operations Certification
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
  • Rapid Intervention Course (RIC)
  • Pump Operations I Certification
  • Fire Officer School or equivalent training
  • Current CPR/AED Certification
  • Current EMR or EMT Certification
  • Modern fire prevention practices and lifesafety procedures for homes and businesses
  • Brookhaven Fire Company policies, procedures, and SOGs
  • Residential and commercial building construction
  • Minimum five (5) years driving experience on engines, rescues, and ladders
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid state driver’s license

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Public Fire Safety Official will perform the following duties, subject to recall by ordinance:

  1. Develop and administer a smoke detector assistance program
  2. Develop public fire safety plans for residents
  3. Conduct preplanning in commercial businesses, schools, and similar Borough entities
  4. Assist with fire safety planning in schools and daycares
  5. Provide fire safety programs for senior residents
  6. Patrol and enforce noparking fire lanes and snowemergency regulations
  7. Assist the Fire Marshal as needed
  8. Assist with snow removal at Brookhaven Fire Company property and the Borough
    Municipal Center
  9. Assist Brookhaven Fire Company with daily apparatus and property maintenance
  10. Respond to fire calls dispatched to Brookhaven Fire Company
  11. Prepare and submit a monthly job report of daily duties
  12. Perform related duties as assigned
  13. Must be able to work a computer for reports and records
