PSA: COVID-19 UPDATE

Brookhaven Borough Council and Mayor Leslie have made the decision to close the Municipal Center to all public activity, effective Monday, December 14th, 2020. We will spend the coming weekend developing a plan for permits and other services, which will be posted by Sunday evening. COVID-19 cases are surging county-wide, and Brookhaven is no different. Approximately 40% of Brookhaven’s total cases have come in the prior 30 days. Our fatality rate (Based ONLY on confirmed cases) is approximately 2%. We are sworn to protect or residents-particularly those most vulnerable to this virus-and have a duty to protect our employees. This decision will do both. Closure is indefinite, with no exceptions. The office will remain fully staffed, and communication via phone and email will remain open. With the pending approval of multiple COVID-19 vaccines, help is on the way, with the first vaccine approval coming with days and distribution beginning as early as Monday 12/14/20. Doses will of course be limited at first, and reserved for Doctors, nurses, and first responders. After that, we hope that the most vulnerable classes that are willing to be vaccinated will be able to do so. Widespread availability may not come until Spring 2021. We thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate through this unprecedented pandemic, and we are confident that the end of it is in sight. Stay safe.
