Joe was injured during battle in the Northern Solomon Islands when his legs were smashed by a falling tree during a bombing.  He limped his entire life after the war.
The Domain of Neptunus Rex, also known as the Order of Shellback, was a certificate given to servicemen the first time they crossed the equator into the Southern Hemisphere. Joe received his certificate on April 5,1943 when the ship he was on, the United States Army Transport, USAT Maui, crossed the equator.

Joe was born in Philadelphia. He worked as a machine operator at Visco Corp in Marcus Hook.

In 1949, Joe moved to Brookhaven with his wife Charlotte and raised their 4 children: Beverly Barr-Greto, Joseph Barr, Jr., Emily Barr-Hall-Wood, & Karen Barr-Dauber.

He was a quiet man, an avid reader, talented in art, and built model planes and cars.  He loved his family, country music, and hugging his grandchildren.

Charlotte also served in the military. Click here for more information on Charlotte.
